ReadyBike Celebrates 3rd Birthday with Just Eat Sponsorship Deal
Just Eat is the new sponsor of ReadyBike – Reading’s successful public bike share scheme.
Distinctive Just Eat branding (see notes to editors) is being rolled out across all 200 ReadyBikes in the town as part of a sponsorship agreement, which will run until the end of August.
The three-month sponsorship deal comes as ReadyBike celebrates its third birthday as the town’s very own bike hire scheme.
Securing Just Eat as the latest ReadyBike sponsor continues the on-going journey to secure the success of the bike share scheme moving forward and active discussions are taking place with other potential sponsors about promoting their brand through the ReadyBike bike share scheme.
Since its launch by the Council in June 2014, a total of 331,000 miles has been cycled by ReadyBike users.
Just Eat is a leading global marketplace for online food delivery, which has over nine million customers and 27,600 restaurant partners in the UK.
Ben Carter, UK Marketing Director for Just Eat said:
“We're thrilled to be the new sponsors of ReadyBike. With over 100 restaurants in Reading available on Just Eat, collectively delivering thousands of takeaways every week from sandwiches at lunchtime, to fish and chips on a Friday night, we believe it's important to support local communities around Britain. We hope the people of Reading will continue to enjoy the bikes as much as they do their favourite dishes."
Tim Caswell, MD of Hourbike, ReadyBike's operator added:
"We're delighted to welcome Just Eat as our latest sponsor of ReadyBike. Just Eat is a fast growing and dynamic company, and it's great news that they've recognised the potential of promoting their brand via the ReadyBike network." Earlier this year Reading Borough Council announced it would remove its subsidy for ReadyBike due to severe budget pressures and that a procurement would be undertaken with the objective of securing an operator to run the scheme commercially.
Tony Page, Reading Borough Council’s Lead Member for Strategic Environment, Planning and Transport, explained:
“After securing its first two sponsors earlier this year, I am delighted that Just Eat has now agreed to the largest sponsorship package to date which helps to keep ReadyBike on the road going forward. The Council is currently undertaking a procurement process as the scheme moves towards a new funding model intended to make it commercially sustainable in future years.”
